On 15 September we held the sessions introducing the Romanipen Escolar agenda at CEIP Asdrúbal. The pupils had already had it in their hands since the first day of term; these sessions were a chance to go through everything inside it with them, classroom by classroom.
Romanín, the Romani flag, the numbers in Romani —yeque, dui, trin, estar, panche…—, the days of the week —luya, marti, tetradí, choyá, parastún, sabató, curcó— and the Roma figure of the week. In this session, Beatriz Carrillo: MP, politician and feminist.

What pleased us most was seeing the agenda already in use. Teachers have started drawing on it for everyday work: in the picture, a dictation based on the first week’s biography, that of Juan de Dios Ramírez Heredia, and a drawing of Romanín beside it.

This is exactly what we were after: Roma history, language and role models as part of the school year, not as a separate activity.
