A Romani research association
Romani knowledge,
told by us
In Caló and Romani, chanipen means knowledge. We recover, produce and share rigorous knowledge about the Roma people, with Romani voices at the centre.
The history of the Roma people is not only Romani history:From our research and memory work
it is the history of Europe.
Three axes, one body of work
Knowledge as a tool
For our people knowledge is not just information: it is living memory, collective wisdom passed down through generations, and the force that drives us to resist and transform.
We produce and share rigorous, critical knowledge about the Roma people in our own voices.
We preserve and pass on our history, languages and cultures against silencing.
We turn knowledge into a tool for truth, equality and the defence of rights.
Our work
Projects
We research, recover memory and take that knowledge into classrooms, archives and public debate.
Our work takes different forms — research and outreach projects, workshops and training for schools and organisations, and our own publications through CHANIPEN Press — but it always pursues the same thing: that knowledge about the Roma people be produced by the Roma people.
