“Anti-Roma racism and Roma youth” at the Annual Roma Conference

Maria Dumitru and Fernando Ruiz Molina travelled to the 14th edition of the meeting, within the climate justice and Romani feminist leadership project.

On 10 April 2026 Maria Dumitru and Fernando Ruiz Molina took part in the 14th Annual Roma Conference, held in the Thompson Room of the Barker Center at Harvard University under the title Mapping Romani Futures: Connected Local Histories and Global Realities. Fernando delivered the lecture “Anti-Roma racism and Roma youth” there.

The trip included the training activities of Fostering Strength: Romani Feminist Leadership for Climate Action, the project of Harvard University’s FXB Center for Health and Human Rights in which the association takes part, and specifically the in-person research and teamwork workshop held between 9 and 14 April.

The project examines how climate change and environmental risks hit Romani communities disproportionately in Bulgaria, Slovakia, Spain, Hungary and Italy, with a group of ten Romani feminists leading the work. Maria Dumitru is one of them.
